NO Rain Without Clouds!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Earlier today I read an earnest plea for prayer by someone whose wife is dying of cancer. He sounded very distraught, and was searching for something to hang onto. I do not have “THE answer, but I can talk about the answers I do have.  My wife too, has cancer. But cancer is not the end of the story; it can sometimes be the beginning of a “new thing.” ( Isa 43:19, 2 Cor 5:17). I wrote the following thoughts, with him in mind.

NO Rain Without Clouds!

If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth. (Ecclesiastes 11:3)

Light In The Clouds

Light In The Clouds

Why, then, do we dread the clouds which now darken our sky? True, for a while they hide the sun, but the sun is not quenched; The Light will shine out again before long. Meanwhile those black clouds are filled with rain; and the blacker they are, the more likely they are to yield plentiful showers. How can we have rain without clouds?

My troubles have always brought us blessings, and they always will. They are the black chariots of bright grace. These clouds will empty themselves before long, and every tender herb will be the gladder for the shower. Our God may drench us with grief, but He will not drown us with wrath; nay, He will refresh us with mercy. Our Lord’s love letters often come to us in black-edged envelopes. The dark clouds will rumble, but they are loaded with benefits. The showers of rain (Zech 10:1) blossoms with sweet flowers and nourishing fruits. Let us not worry about the clouds but sing because May flowers are brought to us through the April clouds and showers.

O Lord, the clouds are the dust of Thy feet! How near you are in the cloudy and dark day! Love beholds your Light and is glad. Faith sees the clouds emptying themselves and making the little hills rejoice on every side, with new growth, (2 Cor 5:17) and the bright sunlight of your presence.

Trust In God

To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” (Isa 61:3)

Courage friend, do not stumble
Though your path is dark as night
There’s a Star to guide the humble
Trust in God and look for Light

Maybe the road is long and dreary
and it’s ending out of sight
Foot it bravely, if even teary
Trust in God and look for Light

Forget the doctrine and the sinning
Away with all that fears The Light
Whether losing, whether winning
Trust in God and look for Light

Some will see your life as wrong
They tend to flatter, lie or slight
But all that dims in your new song
Search every cloud and look for Light

So my simple rules I send your way
for inward peace and inner Light
Sent like lightning as I now pray
that what you find will make it right
