The Loud Cry Part 6: Intelligent Design

Reading Time: 14 minutesThe Loud Cry Part 6: Intelligent Design

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (Rom 8:15)

Soon to Be Understood.–The fourteenth chapter of Revelation is a chapter of the deepest interest. This scripture will soon be understood in all its bearings, and the messages given to John the Revelator will be repeated with distinct utterance (RH Oct. 13, 1904). {7BC 978.10}

power of god is the cross
power of god is the cross

I had a little fun with a few of my friends this week by texting them yet another “Biblical Bombshell.” The text message read like this:

“I was thinking about “intelligent life/design but when I asked myself: “are you intelligent?” I began to experience doubts about “where can I find genuinely intelligent life?” One friend called it “a circular dilemna,” another one said: “I think, therefore I am intelligent,” and yet another just replied: “Uh Oh!”

The reason I was asking such a question in the first place was simply because I was trying to think of Bible Prophecy in a way that would be Biblical, relevant, common sense, intelligent,and true. I was thinking about “intelligent design” because of the fourth commandment and how one of the key passages in Bible Prophecy, (Rev 14:6-7), quotes directly from that fourth commandment. I have been struggling with ideas about prophecy that I have been hearing from mine and other churches. Ideas that just did not seem intelligent, or true. I am sure that everyone reading this would recognize how prophecy and world events are being “weaponized” in order to bring great FEAR and trepidation upon most everyone. Everything we consume on social media is centred around FEAR. (false evidence appearing real), I have concluded that the false evidence that concerns me the most is Bible Prophecy. Many are bound and gagged from all the false evidence appearing real, and proffered as “prophecy.” Some people are really riding on their “high horse,” and making a lot of money from everyone who is fearful. “Intelligent design” has been running away from me this week, insofar as it pertains to prophecy. Everything that I have been seeing is nothing but fear based prophecy.

Now, the Christian life involves diligent, intelligent work. It requires us to give up whatever endangers our relationship with God, to run with endurance, and to struggle against sin with the power of the Holy Spirit. To live effectively, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. We will stumble if we look away from him to stare at ourselves or at the circumstances surrounding us. We should be running for Christ, not ourselves, and we must always keep him in sight. And it is impossible for us to be fearful. Jesus IS THE Light of the world in Bible prophecy! The Bible tells us a story that is not filled with fear, even though it details many fearful things. And with a little research one can depend upon the intelligent design of Bible prophecy. And regarding history, Bible prophecy, when understood in all its bearings, converts all of the FEAR into an evidence-based accounting of HIS-STORY. True Bible prophecy is simply His_Story. Its not so much “HISTORY,” as it is “HIS-STORY” and this is the only reason anyone can even call it “prophecy.” One writer puts it this way:

There is one great central truth to be kept ever before the mind in the searching of the Scriptures–Christ and Him crucified. Every other truth is invested with influence and power corresponding to its relation to this theme.{FLB 50.2}

Here is why this statement is so accurate and intelligent

“But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful. (Rom 5:8, CEV)
and you were far from God. But Christ offered his life’s blood as a sacrifice and brought you near God. (Eph 2:13)
I will never brag about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his cross, the world is dead as far as I am concerned, and I am dead as far as the world is concerned. (Gal 6:14, CEV)”

It is the cross of Christ that provides for us the most “intelligent design” of Bible Prophecy. “If you follow this rule, you will belong to God’s true people. God will treat you with undeserved kindness and will bless you with peace.” (Gal 6:18)

And it is this peace that passes all understandings. THIS peace is what converts all of the world’s FEAR into hope, and into HIS-STORY. And this is also why the loudest cry of Bible prophecy is found in Rev 14. Yes, it is obvious that during some portions of Bible prophecy that there will be “a time of trouble such as never was,” (Dan 12:1 ) but the intelligent design part of Bible prophecy, which must be “the cross,” is the only thing done in God’s wisdom, to rescue mankind from it all. None of the other, terrible parts of the prophecy can portray or undo God’s wisdom and intelligent design. And we must all concede that we could all use some intelligence in the face of so much Bible prophecy, that has nothing to do with Jesus. Admittedly, there is a lot of stuff going on now that we need some kind of power outside ourselves to stay alive and unfearful  these crazy times we all live in. Hmmm. What could this power be? Realize now that the Bible promises us this power. “to those who received Him gave He POWER to become sons and daughters of God.” So what is this power that is promised? If the cross has to be central to everything we believe, then we could assume this is also true for “time of the end” events in Bible prophecy. A time when all the mark of the beast stuff is happening; and people’s hearts failing them for FEAR…” (Luke 21:26)

So we are promised the power to navigate the most terrible times; yet many do not know what this power looks like in work clothes:

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (Rom 8:15)

And what does this “spirit of adoption” look like?

The message about the cross doesn’t make any sense to lost people. But for those of us who are being saved, it is God’s power at work. “The Spirit of Adoption” is very personal, but the FEAR that many are imprisoned by is NOT personal, it is just data driven propaganda. FEAR is not personal and can be generated very well with no personal relationship. FEAR is simply an algorithm that sells really well on the internet. FEAR is the single -most commodity on the internet that outsells anything else on the internet But it’s like as God says in the Scriptures, “I will destroy the wisdom of all who claim to be wise. I will confuse those who think they know so much.” As Col 1:20 tells us: “What happened to those wise people? What happened to those experts in the Scriptures? What happened to the ones who think they have all the answers? Didn’t God show that the wisdom of this world is foolish?” We can know from this that its not what we know; (non relationship), but WHO, (personal relationship) we know that separates us from all the world’s FEAR. Much of what we call prophecy is simply impersonal, and not related to Jesus or the cross. It is cold, impersonal, and fact driven, rather than relationship and intelligence driven. Our wisdom cannot inform of truth half as well as God’s wisdom, and our “adoption” as sons and daughter’s of God will always be “of God.” The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (Rom 8:16-17).

Now thats intelligent design if we ever saw it! “God was wise and decided not to let the people of this world use their wisdom to learn about him. Instead, God chose to save only those who believe the foolish message we preach.” (Col 1:21). And that “foolish message” happens to be “the cross.” (see Col 1:18)

“Jews ask for miracles, and Greeks want something that sounds wise. But we preach that Christ was nailed to a cross. Most Jews have problems with this, and most Gentiles think it is foolish. Our message is God’s power and wisdom for the Jews and the Greeks that he has chosen. Even when God is foolish, he is wiser than everyone else, and even when God is weak, he is stronger than everyone else. My dear friends, remember what you were when God chose you. The people of this world didn’t think that many of you were wise. Only a few of you were in places of power, and not many of you came from important families. But God chose the foolish things of this world to put the wise to shame. He chose the weak things of this world to put the powerful to shame. What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important. God did all this to keep anyone from bragging to him. You are God’s children. He sent Christ Jesus to save us and to make us wise, acceptable, and holy. So if you want to brag, do what the Scriptures say and brag about the Lord. (Col 1:22-31, Gal 6:14).

The first angel relates the foundational concept of the “everlasting gospel.” The second and third angels add details of the great opposition to the “everlasting gospel;” making what they add to the message a part of the story on the great controversy between Christ and satan. We can see the fact that the portion offered by the second and third angels is not good news. And if you check in your Bible, the bare-bones definition of “gospel” IS “good news.” As Rev 14:7 says; the good news of Rev 14 Bible prophecy is about the cross. About Him who “made the sky, the earth, the oceans, and everything in them,” (Exodus 20:11 and Rev 14:7). Lets look at that first angel’s part of the message:

Rev 14:6  I saw another angel. This one was flying across the sky and had the eternal good news to announce to the people of every race, tribe, language, and nation on earth. Rev 14:7  The angel shouted, “Worship and honour God! The time has come for him to judge everyone. Kneel down before the one who created heaven and earth, the oceans, and every stream.” And this is right out of the fourth commandment: “In six days I made the sky, the earth, the oceans, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That’s why I made the Sabbath a special day that belongs to me.” (Exodus 20:11 is where Rev 14:7 quotes directly from!)

This foundational concept of the message of the three angels is a direct reference to the cross, and to the One who died on the cross. Further, the “gospel” is called “everlasting” for good reasons. Because it is! The stuff mentioned by the second and third angel is NOT everlasting, not good news, in any sense of the word. Only Jesus who created heaven and earth, (Prov 16:4, Col 1:16, Rev 4:11) can ever be viewed as eternal. Jer 31:3 God says “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.” The cross, therefore must be “eternal” for this was how Jesus chose long before this world was created, to save us. Here is the definition of intelligent design:

God’s Everlasting Love

What can we say about all this? If God is on our side, can anyone be against us? God did not keep back his own Son, but he gave him for us. If God did this, won’t he freely give us everything else? If God says his chosen ones are acceptable to him, can anyone bring charges against them? Or can anyone condemn them? No indeed! Christ died and was raised to life, and now he is at God’s right side, speaking to him for us. Can anything separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble, suffering, and hard times, or hunger and nakedness, or danger and death? It is exactly as the Scriptures say, “For you we face death all day long. We are like sheep on their way to be butchered.” In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us. I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord! (Rom 8:31-39)

Life in the Spirit

If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won’t be punished. The Holy Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you free from sin and death. The Law of Moses cannot do this, because our selfish desires make the Law weak. But God set you free when he sent his own Son to be like us sinners and to be a sacrifice for our sin. God used Christ’s body to condemn sin. He did this, so that we would do what the Law commands by obeying the Spirit instead of our own desires. People who are ruled by their desires think only of themselves. Everyone who is ruled by the Holy Spirit thinks about spiritual things. If our minds are ruled by our desires, we will die. But if our minds are ruled by the Spirit, we will have life and peace. Our desires fight against God, because they do not and cannot obey God’s laws. If we follow our desires, we cannot please God. You are no longer ruled by your desires, but by God’s Spirit, who lives in you. People who don’t have the Spirit of Christ in them don’t belong to him. But Christ lives in you. So you are alive because God has accepted you, even though your bodies must die because of your sins. Yet God raised Jesus to life! God’s Spirit now lives in you, and he will raise you to life by his Spirit. (Rom 8:1-11)

Heirs with Christ

My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires. If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God’s Spirit you say “No” to your desires. Only those people who are led by God’s Spirit are his children. God’s Spirit doesn’t make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father. God’s Spirit makes us sure that we are his children. His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him. (Rom 8:12-17)

Future Glory

I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us. In fact, all creation is eagerly waiting for God to show who his children are. Rom 8:20  Meanwhile, creation is confused, but not because it wants to be confused. God made it this way in the hope that creation would be set free from decay and would share in the glorious freedom of his children. We know that all creation is still groaning and is in pain, like a woman about to give birth. The Spirit makes us sure about what we will be in the future. But now we groan silently, while we wait for God to show that we are his children. This means that our bodies will also be set free. And this hope is what saves us. But if we already have what we hope for, there is no need to keep on hoping. However, we hope for something we have not yet seen, and we patiently wait for it. In certain ways we are weak, but the Spirit is here to help us. For example, when we don’t know what to pray for, the Spirit prays for us in ways that cannot be put into words. All of our thoughts are known to God. He can understand what is in the mind of the Spirit, as the Spirit prays for God’s people. We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose, and he has always known who his chosen ones would be. He had decided to let them become like his own Son, so that his Son would be the first of many children. God then accepted the people he had already decided to choose, and he has shared his glory with them. (Rom 8:18-30)

Christ’s Example of Humility

Think about what we have in Christ: the encouragement he has brought us, the comfort of his love, our sharing in his Spirit, and the mercy and kindness he has shown us. If you enjoy these blessings,then do what will make my joy complete: Agree with each other, and show your love for each other. Be united in your goals and in the way you think. In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honour others more than yourselves. Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.
In your life together, think the way Christ Jesus thought. He was like God in every way, but he did not think that his being equal with God was something to use for his own benefit.
Instead, he gave up everything, even his place with God. He accepted the role of a servant, appearing in human form. During his life as a man, he humbled himself by being fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross. So God raised him up to the most important place and gave him the name that is greater than any other name.
God did this so that every person will bow down to honour the name of Jesus. Everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth will bow. They will all confess, “Jesus Christ is Lord,” and this will bring glory to God the Father. (Phil 2:1-11, CEV)

Be Ready for Every Good Work

Remind your people that they should always be under the authority of rulers and government leaders. They should obey these leaders and be ready to do good. Tell them not to speak evil of anyone but to live in peace with others. They should be gentle and polite to everyone. In the past we were foolish too. We did not obey, we were wrong, and we were slaves to the many things our bodies wanted and enjoyed. We lived doing evil and being jealous. People hated us and we hated each other. But then the kindness and love of God our Savior was made known. He saved us because of his mercy, not because of any good things we did. He saved us through the washing that made us new people. He saved us by making us new through the Holy Spirit. God poured out to us that Holy Spirit fully through Jesus Christ our Savior. We were made right with God by his grace. God saved us so that we could be his children and look forward to receiving life that never ends. This is a true statement. And I want you to be sure that the people understand these things. Then those who believe in God will be careful to use their lives for doing good. These things are good and will help everyone. (Titus 3:1-8, CEV).

Could it be that this “distinct utterance” of Rev 14 is the loudest cry of Bible prophecy?

Prophets and wise men full of faith and the Holy Ghost, represented by Stephen, James, Paul, and many others, scribes, men of learning, who understood the Scriptures and could present them in all their bearings as revealed by God, would be scorned and persecuted, condemned and put to death. The Saviour spoke no words of retaliation for the abuse he had received at the hands of his enemies. No unholy passion stirred that divine soul; but his indignation was directed against the hypocrites whose gross sins were an abomination in the sight of God. The conduct of Christ upon this occasion reveals the fact that the Christian can dwell in perfect harmony with God, possess all the sweet attributes of love and mercy, yet feel a righteous indignation against aggravating sin. (3SP 68.3-4} This sounds like the most intelligent design any of us have heard anywhere.

There is a very broad and deep work to be accomplished in fallen humanity. This is the true interpretation of genuine conversion. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. The answer to this question, as given by the lawyer, comprehends the entire duty of man, who is seeking eternal life. The lawyer was unable to evade the question so directly and pointedly expressed as to the conditions of eternal life. He understood its bearings, and the necessity of answering the demands of the law in loving God supremely, and his neighbour as himself. He knew he had not done either of these, and the conviction of his neglect to obey the first four commandments and the last six commandments plainly specified in the words of the holy oracles of God was impressed by the Holy Spirit upon his heart. He saw himself weighed in the balances of the sanctuary and found wanting. He did not serve God supremely, because he had not loved Him supremely, with his whole heart, with all his soul, and all his strength, and with all his mind. Lacking decidedly in this requirement of Jehovah’s law, he failed decidedly to love his neighbour as himself. {UL 221.4}

Our Loud cry that will move the world is nothing less than the everlasting gospel. The everlasting good news! All must now awake and seek the Lord, lest the powers of the enemy shall obtain the victory. There are much greater depths of spiritual truth to be reached by experience. Christ will lead us to higher and still higher planes, where spiritual perception and spiritual action shall enter into unquestionable discoveries, and where the sacred truths of the gospel shall be understood in all their bearings.

Amid the confusing cries, “Lo, here is Christ! Lo, there is Christ!” will be borne a special testimony, a special message of truth appropriate for this time, which message is to be received, believed, and acted upon. It is the truth, not fanciful ideas, that is efficacious. The eternal truth of the Word will stand forth free from all seductive errors and spiritualistic interpretations, free from all fancifully drawn, alluring pictures. Falsehoods will be urged upon the attention of God’s people, but the truth is to stand clothed in its beautiful, pure garments. The Word, precious in its holy uplifting influence, is not to be degraded to a level with common, ordinary matters. It is always to remain uncontaminated by the fallacies by which Satan seeks to deceive, if possible, the very elect.

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. (Rev 14:6-7) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.(Exodus 20:11). The most important part of the three angel’s message is a direct quote from the fourth commandment. Therefore, it is safe to presume the word ‘everlasting” can and must apply to the gospel, which is the really good news. The cross of Christ is the only thing that is eternal to us now:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 6:23) This is the Loudest cry of any other part of the three angel’s message.

Stay tuned for next week when we study more about the fourth commandment in Bible prophecy.
